In 1962, Julia Child launched her television show, “Julia Child Cooks,” which was a massive success. It featured good food and wine pairings, and millions of viewers tuned in to see what the famous chef was cooking. She also helped introduce many upcoming culinary stars. Here are some of her favorite wines, cheeses and books.

Julia Child’s first television cooking show

You can enjoy Julia Child’s food and wine legacy. And remember, if you enjoy a good meal, pairing it with great wine is a must. In 1963, Julia Child created the first television cooking show in the United States, titled The French Chef. It ran for 10 seasons and introduced American viewers to French cuisine. Her cooking show won her the first educational Emmy in 1966. Child also wrote three books about French cuisine and became a member of the American Institute of Wine and Food. A tribute to her work was recently published in the New York Times Magazine.

Julia Child’s favorite wines

The author of the cookbook Julia Child’s Kitchen reveals which wine she enjoyed most when cooking. Wine was a major component of her culinary approach and she wrote a chapter on it. Julia Child and wine were simply a whole new experience. She and her co-authors drank a variety of wines in their recipes and wrote with the confidence of lifelong oenophiles. The authors also invested in memberships in a Burgundian wine-tasting society. The idea behind this was to keep their palates in tip-top shape when they cooked and served.

Julia Child’s favorite cheeses

In “Mastering the Art of French Cooking,” Julia Child devotes a whole chapter to wine. The oenophile and cookbook author believed that knowing wine and cheese is integral to understanding French food. She wrote about her experiences with Chateau d’Yquem in her cookbook. During filming of the book, Julia Child and her husband Paul often cleaned pots and pans. They also joined the prestigious Burgundian wine-tasting society, the Confrerie des Chevaliers du Tastevin, and spent a large amount of money on memberships. The goal: to keep their palates in tip-top shape.

Julia Child’s favorite books

In Mastering the Art of French Cooking, Julia Child and her co-authors share their passion for wine. They believed that an understanding of wine is essential to creating a great meal. They wrote a section on wine with the confidence and attitude of lifelong oenophiles. Julia also took the time to join the Confrerie des Chevaliers du Tastevin, a Burgundian wine-tasting society, in order to keep their palates in peak condition.

Julia Child’s favorite restaurants

If you are looking for the best places to eat in Santa Barbara, California, then you’ve come to the right place. These five locations are among Julia Child’s favorite restaurants and wineries. Julia was a California native and had lived in Santa Barbara, California, for the last two years of her life. The Julia Child Foundation and the Santa Barbara Culinary Experience have collaborated to create a guide to Julia Child’s favorite restaurants in the county.
