Male Comedians On Netflix
We saw five films last week, some old, some new, some on loan, some blue. Here’s the drop:
Green ZONE – 7:00 pm on Sunday, March 14 at the Mann Criterion in Santa Monica – a beautiful new film by director Paul Greengrass. Playing Matt Damon, GREEN ZONE tells the story of a US military captain behind Saddam Iraq, who begins to question his career after appearing empty-handed in a WMD search (Weapons of Mass Destruction). Rejecting orders, the military captain (Matt Damon) seeks the truth between political slime (Greg Kinnear), CIA hardliners (Brendan Gleason), highly independent journalists (Amy Ryan), terrorists and terrorists. The more he thinks about it, the more dangerous he becomes. There are no surprises here … But it is WAY the way the story is told that makes the most difference in the GREEN MEN. Male Comedians On Netflix As he did with FLIGHT 93, and BOURNE movies … Paul Greengrass is an entertaining storyteller, taking (in this case) the story of the story and still making it very compelling to watch. I remember thinking to myself last Sunday “this is my kind of movie.” Maybe it could be yours too …
LOOK AT WHAT I SAY: THE DOCUMENT OF UNDERSTANDING – 7:30 pm Thursday, March 18 at Theater Theater in Hollywood – At the invitation of a friend of my friend’s, I went to the first show of LOOK AT: I said: well they can play it on the big screen. Director Hilary Scarl’s sad, yet exciting documentary tells the story of four deaf or hard of hearing artists. There is CJ Jones, an American comedian with a talent for comedy, who is a star in the deaf community, yet a major figure in the world of hearing. CJ’s story is a testament to inner strength, as well as a positive attitude.
On the other side of the spectrum, you have Robert DeMayo …. a deaf, gay, HIV-positive actor, who fights every day with various challenges … including finding a place to sleep at night. His struggle to be in the world of hearing is very sad … T.L. Forsberg (or simply, TL) is an outstanding and well-performing artist, dreaming of solidity. I am not completely deaf, or completely deaf … T.L. Male Comedians On Netflix it’s hard to hear … he can speak normally, continue the conversation … but only in peaceful places. In addition to his talent, T.L. he stumbles in front of an audience … as his sign language skills are very limited. Caught between two worlds (hearing and deaf), but not very welcome in any … T.L. she struggles to give up her dream. Bob Hiltermann is a deaf drummer, teaching a livelihood.
Bob’s dream is to reunite his entire rock and roll band, Beethoven’s Nightmare … and perform in Los Angeles … Fortunately, we can see Bob’s dream slowly coming true … I agree, watching LOOK WHAT I SAY: I was relieved at times … as did the 90% audience I was with during the first play. Male Comedians On Netflix I felt nervous … but only because it was a world, a culture and a society with which I was not very familiar. Anyway the movie, the crowd, and the Q&A session after that … were all very encouraging. Thank you for the opportunity to see what I have to say … and to be introduced to the part of people I have never thought about so much. LOOK AT WHAT I AM SAYING: A DEAF DOCUMENT does what a documenter should do … entertaining, entering, enlightening, and teaching. See it if you can …
STAR TREK: NEMESIS (2002) – Friday evening, March 19 in my bedroom with a DVD on Netflix – I’ve been wanting to see this for a long time … It’s the only Star Trek movie I’ve ever seen … it was also a movie of The lowest Star Trek ever killed the franchise for seven years. But veteran editor Stuart Baird in the Star Trek series is really good …. at least I thought so. This time around Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) and his team are facing a strange evil … which is Picard’s own lump. While this isn’t an old clone … it’s a Picard character (played by Tom Hardy). Apparently, the Romanians stole his DNA years ago, and he would use Clone Picard to help destroy the Federation.
Now, Clard Picard … who calls himself “Praetor Shinzon” … uses both the inferior Reemans, and the evil Romulans to incite revenge on humanity now … what else? … On earth. Hey, these things happen. What can I tell you? Needless to say, Picard, Worf (Michael Dorn), Riker (Jonathan Frakes), La Forge (LeVar Burton), Data (Brent Spiner), and Advisor Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis) saved the day. With talk, betrayal, space wars, too much talk, and psychological rapes (don’t ask) … Picard and Co suffer and shine through all kinds of hardships … but will they save humanity in the end? Don’t let the hokey building line and the lower box office fool you. STAR TREK: NEMESIS is a compelling film, and it adds well to the series … Of course it goes hand in hand with previous films … I know I’m going to end up in the city by saying this … but I’d rather STAR TREK: NEMESIS than last year’s JJ more.
